Sopers Mill River Access

Story County Conservation sought to increase recreational opportunities while preserving natural resources and restoring streambank stability of Sopers Mill. ISG completed a wetland delineation and environmental site analysis of the Sopers Mill access site to minimize environmental disruption. Throughout the process, ISG navigated project permitting, coordinating with the Iowa DNR, Story County, and the University of Iowa to protect the archaeologically significant area. ISG’s water team developed precise design elevations, accommodating average water level fluctuations. The resulting design is a cost-effective, reinforced concrete ramp that provides seamless access regardless of water levels. Throughout the project, ISG prioritized environmental stewardship to create a sustainable and safe access to Skunk River.

  • Erosion and sedimentation control plan
  • Vegetation buffers provide wildlife habitat
  • Reinforced concrete ramp within an existing rock riffle
