The City of Kingsley’s continuous discharge aerated lagoon was failing, reaching capacity, and not meeting Iowa’s updated water quality standards for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) effluent limits.
Following detailed alternative design options, ISG retrofitted the existing wastewater treatment lagoons using a submerged attached growth reactor (SAGR), which is primarily designed to provide ammonia removal in cold to moderate climates. An effluent ultraviolet disinfection system was also included to help the City meet more stringent bacterial limits during the summer months.
