East River Recreational Trail

With extensive studies highlighting issues like water quality and habitat degradation, the East River—linked to the Fox River and Lake Michigan in Wisconsin—has been targeted for restoration due to industrial contamination and frequent flooding. ISG is developing a comprehensive East River Trail Recreational Trail Plan that enhances trail accessibility during high water flows and incorporates habitat and water quality improvements. The team considered other regional coastal resiliency projects, such as the Brown County Conservation water trails and Green Bay’s green infrastructure stormwater project, into this plan to maximize water quality efforts. This coordinated approach among communities leverages resources and will help secure future funding to implement the plan, demonstrating how integrated planning can achieve environmental, social, and economic benefits.

  • 10–15-mile recreational corridor
  • Collaborative coastal resiliency initiative to address overlapping environmental challenges
  • Aggregation of existing study data to establish baseline for ecological planning
  • Habitat restoration, water quality improvement, and ecological restoration with trail development
  • In-person community engagement and interactive, Social Pinpoint website
