Based in the Sioux Falls office, Project Management Group Leader Tiara Marcus has been a part of the ISG team for over a year. With her engineering background and hands-on experience, she brings an in-depth knowledge of best practices and efficiencies for project teams. Her leadership style involves a blend of empathy, accountability, and strength-building, knowing that team members perform at their best when positioned for growth and tangible success. Learn more about Tiara and what she loves about being at ISG!

What brought you to ISG and what has been most rewarding so far?

The culture! I was craving an environment with people who see the value in being held accountable, and where team members are appreciated for their individual talents and contributions. I love the ability to teach others and influence ways to stretch beyond comfort levels, leading to professional growth. Over the past 15 years I have been fortunate to have had many mentors, and I enjoy paying it forward. I work alongside so many folks that have a remarkably high standard of excellence. We push each other to do better each day, and “link arms” to see it happen. It is amazing.

Who has had a considerable influence on your career path and in what way?

Dr. Carter Kerk, a professor and longtime friend. He believed in me far before I believed in myself and inspired me to start leading others. His humility and intelligence taught me so much about successful ways to operate as a leader and bring people with you.

What is one of the most significant projects you have worked on at ISG so far?

The South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development Infrastructure First project has been unlike anything I have ever worked on within the manufacturing or mining world. It was a test of leadership and coordination to put together a $1M+ deliverable to the client. The project is also groundbreaking considering the opportunity to execute a unique statewide infrastructure plan, but also planting the seed with other South Dakota communities to assist with their planning and growth initiatives.

What is the best work-related advice you have been given?

Make it a mission to grow everyone around you. Every interaction can have influence in some way, so be intentional with each conversation leaving each person walking away with a little more knowledge. One of the best rewards you can have as a leader is to witness the promotions of those you have influenced and watching them grow into bigger and more challenging roles.

What is one thing you cannot work without and why?

A positive team! I have seen the value of working with an optimistic and positive mindset when facing challenges and leaving no room for the “we can’t do this” approach. If you believe you can achieve anything, as long as you work hard, stay positive, and be creative to find a way, you will!

What would you do in an ISG talent show?

Karaoke! A few brave ISGers have witnessed this.

How do you recharge after work?

I thoroughly enjoy sitting on the deck with my husband, listening to some good music, while drinking an adult beverage. We love watching our kids and dogs play in the yard, and relaxing as a family whenever we can.

What kind of things do you do for fun?

Our family goes camping whenever we can. We enjoy the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating as well! Nothing better than a day at the lake with family and friends.
